The Cycle

I hate you with every piece of lie,

I love you with every piece of truth,

I need to with every move forward,

I want to with every move back,

The pendulum swings, this repetitive cycle

But it has to stop now,

Essential for our sanity

We must put it away,

Stick it in a box deep within our closets.

The temptation is strong,

The box within arms reach,

So I go back into the box

Take out the pendulum,

Now rusted on its sides, dust in the air

Doesn’t seem to swing as aggressively as it used to

But it swings none the less,

Slower, more calmly

It still swings.
